MOSTROMESTRE
ritratti inquietanti della città 2005
Realzzato in pellicola 35mm, con una vecchia reflex analogica degli anni '70, volutamente nei mesi invernali di gennaio, febbraio, marzo 2005 per le particolari condizioni metereologiche e di luce, questo reportage fu esposto a Mestre nel mese di ottobre dello stesso anno. Comprende oltre un centinaio di stampe sulla città di Mestre, ed è suddiviso in 5 parti tematiche (vedute, mostri, ruderi, texture e geometrie) di cui se ne presenta un estratto non ordinato di scansioni digitali e se ne riporta il testo allora redatto:
Un occhio architettonico crudele racconta Mestre attraverso una documentazione iconografica sullo stato attuale della città, reinterpretandola provocatoriamente come un mostro, nel significato puro del termine. Ironicamente il MOSTROMESTRE si mette in mostra e si manifesta come un fenomeno urbano malriuscito, nato ecresciuto male perchè provo di pianificazione.
Mostri urbani tali per dimesioni fuoriscala o per bruttezza, sono stati edificati senza alcun rispetto per il contesto territoriale preesistente e per l'identità storica del luogo, nonchè per i suoi abitanti.
Mostri figli del boom edilizio sono nati per volontà di attori senza etica e senza estetica, in preda ad una convulsiva calviniana speculazione edilizia (1) che hanno messo le mani sulla città (2) con la complicità di chi ha lasciato loro carta bianca. Mestre oggi ècosì come la vediamo là fuori, e continua a crescere.

DISTURBING PORTRAITS OF THE CITY
Shot on 35mm film with an old 1970s analogue SLR camera, and deliberately captured during the winter months of January, February, and March 2005 for its unique weather and light conditions, this photo essay was exhibited in Mestre in October of the same year. It features over a hundred prints of the city of Mestre and is divided into five thematic parts: views, monsters, ruins, textures, and geometries. An unordered extract of digital scans is presented here, along with the original accompanying text:
A harsh, architectural eye narrates Mestre through an iconographic documentation of the city's current state, provocatively reinterpreting it as a 'monster' in the purest sense of the term. Ironically, 'MOSTROMESTRE' (Monster Mestre) puts itself on display, manifesting as a botched urban phenomenon, poorly conceived and grown due to a lack of planning.
Urban monsters, grotesque either in their out-of-scale dimensions or sheer ugliness, were erected with no regard for the pre-existing territorial context, the historical identity of the place, or its inhabitants. These monsters, born from a building boom, were the will of actors devoid of ethics and aesthetics, caught in a convulsive, Calvinian building speculation (1) that laid hands on the city (2) with the complicity of those who gave them free rein. Mestre today is as we see it out there, and it continues to grow.
